CARRERA EXTREMADURA, 25º ANIVERSARIO Se celebrará en Badajoz el 24 de febrero en conmemoración de la aprobación del Estatuto de Autonomía de Extremadura
Organizada por la Asociación atlética “Ciudad de Badajoz” y con la colaboración de la Concejalía de Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Badajoz a través de su Fundación Municipal de Deportes, Badajoz celebrará el domingo 24 de febrero de 2008 la denominada CARRERA EXTREMADURA 25º ANIVERSARIO en conmemoración de la aprobación del Estatuto de Autonomía de Extremadura.
La prueba, que aún no tiene ubicación definitiva (Universidad o nuevo ferial), constará de 10.000 metros en las categorías absolutas e irá bajando las distancias acordes con las edades de las categorías menores e incluirá también una Caminata por la Salud.
La AACB envió cartas con el proyecto a diversas empresas, organismos autonómicos y a las obras sociales de todas las Cajas de Ahorros con sucursales en la ciudad de Badajoz, sin recibir comunicación aún por parte de ninguna de ellas, aunque sí de la Consejería de Sanidad y Dependencia y del Patronato de Turismo de Cáceres, así como de la Correduría de Seguros José Cortés de Almendralejo, Cosméticos Aitana Garbayo (Manuel Gañán) y de Runner Sport.
Desde la AACB se invita a todas las empresas e instituciones a participar en esta prueba única que desea ser un acto de exaltación de nuestra Comunidad.

6ª Corta Mato de Degolados, sábado 9 febrero
Sin ningún apoyo de tipo económico y con la ilusión de siempre, la AACB (Asociación Atlética Ciudad de Badajoz) inicia la 3ª edición de un Circuito de la Raya, de la que es coordinadora, y que a priori está formado por 25 pruebas a uno y otro lado de La Raya, esa antigua frontera que gracias a la Unión Europea ya no existe en el mapa y gracias al atletismo tampoco existe en los corazones de los asiduos participantes a las pruebas.
Y para comenzar, nada mejor que una prueba en la pequeña localidad de Degolados (Campo Maior), que acogerá el próximo sábado a partir de las 16:30 horas españolas la 6ª edición de su Corta Mato (Cross) en la que se espera una buena participación tanto de atletas portugueses como extremeños. Las categorías van desde Benjamines A hasta Veteranos de varias categorías.
La prueba estará controlada por los jueces de la Associaçao de Atletismo do Distrito de Portalegre y se celebrará en un hermoso paraje sobre un circuito de 1500 metros con subidas y bajadas bastante pronunciadas situado a unos 2 kms de la localidad.

Este año también he ido a la maratón de Badajoz como espectador, siendo testigo de ese enorme esfuerzo que supone correr los 42 kilómetros y unos metros. Para poder hacer esta heroicidad se necesitan muchos meses de riguroso entrenamiento, ponerse a diario los pantalones cortos y salir a correr, haga frío o calor, en la soledad de los caminos con una disciplina y esfuerzo espartanos, quitándose tiempo de otras actividades o robándoselo a la familia. La compensación a tanto sacrificio no es económica, ni la de adquirir prestigio, el único fin que tiene el corredor popular es la satisfacción personal de haber corrido los 42 kilómetros. El tiempo empleado da igual, quizás rebajar el tiempo de años anteriores. Por este enorme esfuerzo no va a tener ni fama ni dinero, solamente unas terribles agujetas que al día siguiente, cuando vaya a trabajar, le impedirán subir las escaleras de la oficina, o sentarse al volante del taxi, o borrar la pizarra del aula antes de comenzar las clases. La generosidad del maratoniano popular con el esfuerzo no tiene parangón con ninguna otra actividad deportiva que esté tan desprovista de interés.

Dice que no ha vuelto a saber nada de su proyecto desde octubre.

El Club Maratón Cáceres-Econisa ha hecho público un comunicado en el que pide al ayuntamiento que "haga públicas sus intenciones" en torno a la continuidad o no de la Media Maratón de Cáceres, que tuvo el pasado año su primera edición.
El club cacereño ya ha mantenido alguna reunión con el concejal de Deportes, en la que los entusiastas miembros manifestaron su disposición incluso a organizar la prueba, al tiempo que le presentaron su proyecto. En la entrevista, que tuvo lugar en octubre, el concejal "nos solicitó un tiempo para estudiar la documentación y se comprometió a citarnos de nuevo y así perfilar todos los detalles, dando cuerpo al proyecto final". Pero el club "no ha tenido desde entonces comunicación oficial del ayuntamiento en ningún sentido".

Tan sólo fue vencido por el marroquí Abdelkader El Mouaziz, uno de los mejores maratonianos del mundo
El atleta extremeño Miguel Ángel Vaquero Agama se ha proclamado Campeón de España de Veteranos de Cross celebrado el domingo 10 de febrero en la localidad catalana de Lloret de Mar sobre 8 kms aproximadamente.
La prueba servía al mismo tiempo para el Campeonato de España por clubes, por lo que en la misma podían participar atletas extranjeros pertenecientes a clubes españoles. Esto ha hecho que Vaquero sólo haya sido vencido por el excelente atleta marroquí Abdelkader El Moaziz, que entre otras pruebas, cuenta en su haber con una victoria en el prestigioso Maratón de Londres.
En este sentido el equipo de Vaquero, el San Sebastián de los Reyes-Clínicas MenorCa, ha sido subcampeón de España por detrás del Maracena de Granada, club integrado por atletas marroquíes, algunos de ellos nacionalizados españoles.
En una extraordinaria carrera y tras perder cierta comba por riesgo de lesión a causa de unas molestias arrastradas desde hace tiempo, Vaquero se limitó a mantener la posición para proclamarse Campeón de España sin optar a la victoria en la prueba, sumando así un nuevo éxito a su carrera deportiva desde que el 31 de diciembre venciera en la San Silvestre Vallecana popular y más recientemente en el cross largo del Campeonato de España Militar de cross largo, así como 3º absoluto en el Campeonato Absoluto de Cross de la Comunidad de Madrid.
La próxima cita importante para el genial atleta pacense será el Campeonato del Mundo de Cross Militar que se celebrará en Suiza el 24 de Febrero.

Recorrido de la XXVI Maratón Popular Ciudad de Badajoz
Un año más, y van veintiseis ediciones, la Maratón Popular Ciudad de Badajoz recorrerá este domingo a partir desde las 9:30 de la mañana las principales avenidas de nuestra ciudad.
La Maratón Popular de Badajoz es ya todo un clásico del calendario atlético y se ha consolidado aún más en las últimas ediciones, llegándose a batir el año pasado el récord de participantes, tomando la salida más de quinientos corredores de los 654 inscritos y entrando en meta 406 de ellos.
Este año la Fundación Municipal de Deportes, encargada de la organización, espera al menos se repita la cifra de participantes ya que es la única prueba de esta distancia que se celebra en nuestra comunidad.
En la pasada edición el vencedor absoluto de la prueba fué el corredor portugués Eusebio Rosa, con un tiempo de 2:26:19, seguido del extremeño Juan Francisco Cano con una marca de 2:26:39, siendo el primer pacense Manuel Perozo, entrando en la vigesimoquinta posición con un tiempo de 2:41:19.
En mujeres venció por segundo año consecutivo, la portuguesa Chantal Xhervelle entrando en el puesto 90 de la general con una marca de 2:59:29.
Esta edición además contará la presencia del jóven atleta pacense Antonio Grillo, que tras gran actuación en dos grandes citas como son la Media Maraton de Cordoba, donde se quedó a 19 segundos de entrar en super-élite, y la Media Maratón Internacional de Sevilla-Los Palacios en la que subió al podio como tercer promesa internacional, debutará en esta distancia en su ciudad natal en una prueba de mayor exigencia atlética que las que está acostumbrado a correr.
El recorrido.
Se darán dos vueltas a un circuito en su mayoría urbano que tandrá su principio y fin en el Paseo Fluvial, y que completará un total de 42 kilómetros y 195 metros, estimándose la llegada de los primeros corredores a meta alrededor de las 11:50 horas y cerrándose definitivamente el control a partir de las 14:30 horas.
La maratón, ese deporte de titanes
La maratón es el descubrimiento de la prueba deportiva suprema. La maratón es el reto físico más exigente con el que se puede encontrar el deportista. Y la persona. No se trata de correr por correr. Ni siquiera es un divertido juego consistente en llegar el primero por mucho que el sólo hecho de llegar sea por sí mismo un gran triunfo. No, no es una prueba deportiva más del calendario con el que completar la programación televisiva específica. Por no ser, habrá que reconocer que tampoco es la solución estrella para salvar una temporada de actividades deportivas de élite.
La maratón es mucho más. Es el coraje de prepararse en solitario, de sufrir en silencio, de aguantar la lluvia, el frío y el sol un día sí y otro también, sin nadie junto a ti, sólo el horizonte de frente, ese horizonte tan lejano y que jamás llega. La maratón es un duelo contra sí mismo donde, por desgracia, nunca hay un claro ganador. Todos los que participan pero, especialmente, todos los que logran cruzar la línea de meta son, de algún modo, ganadores. Y también perdedores. Porque cada maratón es dejar parte de uno en la carretera, ese pequeño o gran trozo de alma que no se podrá recuperar, sa pizca de vida que se esparce sobre el asfalto sin que nadie se de cuenta. Sólo el corredor, ese corredor de fondo que transcurre por un circuito sin ver a nadie, sin sentir nada, sin pensar en otra cosa que no sea la maldita línea que marca el recorrido, un recorrido infernal, inhumano, terrible, más de dos horas siendo protagonista del mayor de los dramas que se conozcan. Y de la mayor de las glorias.
La maratón no es un deporte de espectáculo sino de sufrimiento. El corredor no busca el aplauso sino la solidaridad. Porque mientras dura la prueba, ni los aplausos, ni los gritos de ánimo, ni la leve emoción por llegar influyen en su rendimiento. Lo único que importa es correr, correr lo suficiente para no desfallecer, para sentirse en la intimidad de su persona capaz de superar sus propias fuerzas. La maratón es el sacrificio de todo el ser, el esfuerzo sobrehumano de un humano, el aprovechamiento de las capacidades hasta la extenuación.
La maratón es, en definitiva, el origen e historia del deporte, la prueba por excelencia, la competición que exige del público algo más que una mera contemplación, que requiere de los deportistas mucho más que espectáculo, que demanda de todos bastante más de lo que se le da a cualquier otro deporte. La maratón es la historia de uno. La historia de todos. Preparación, aprendizaje, dificultades, superación, concentración, muy pocos éxitos grandilocuentes, muchas victorias íntimas…y soledad, siempre soledad y silencio.
La maratón es el espectáculo en la calle, el sufrimiento sobre la calzada, el aplauso de los aficionados, la excelencia de los organizadores, el interés de una ciudad, Badajoz, por situarse en la elite del deporte.
